Pinging (pinking) - a cure?

Pinging can be helped by creating a clean combustion chamber with no hot spots.

This can be done by injecting a small amount of clean water into the inlet manifold at a ratio of no more than 26.6 parts of fuel to 1 part of water . (about 700 mils to 20 liters of fuel)

This can be done as follows on both Nikis and 500s.

All the parts are cheap and readily available

Cost $

5 10      1/4 inch 12 volt solenoid as used in gas systems.

•By pure co-incidence I came across the advertisement below from the Modem Motor magazine of September 1957 on the same day as Richard sent me his article. It shows a unit with similar outcomes as Richard's. Water (vapour) injectors have been around for ever and were apparently used on VWs especially in Europe. (Tony Potter)
